You will stay in a house steeped in history in the local area. It is not known exactly how old the house is, but certainly over 100 years old. When the reservoir was being constructed (around 1950) there was a «taberna», meaning tavern, in the house. Signs of this past can still be seen in the house, including an earthenware stool fixed into the wall.

Renovation

In 2015 the house was completely renovated with an extension built in the original style. For the renovation and extension it was decided to only use durable, environmentally friendly materials. The walls are therefore made from straw bales, stuck together with a mixture of sand, chalk and oil.

The walls of the existing section of the house are around 70 cm thick and made up of clay and stone. This ensures great insulation. The straw bales in the new section are also perfect insulators. All this creates a very pleasant living environment.

A lot of wood was used in the renovation, most of which comes from the Algarve, and is treated with nature friendly products.

Lodging

There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with two single beds. If desired the single beds can be pushed together to make another double bed. In this room there is also a vide where another two people can sleep. There is a luxury bathroom with walk in shower, and another separate toilet.

In the extension is an open kitchen and living room. Due to the many doors and windows this room is filled with light from outside.

If it is cooler outside then you can always enjoy the warmth of the wood burning stove.

Further facilities and amenities in the house include: internet (WiFi), TV, washing machine, fridge, oven, microwave, cutlery and crockery, safe, baby bed, bed linen (cleaned once a week) and towels.

Outside

The peace and tranquility continue once you get outside. On two sides of the house there is a terrace made of natural stones collected from the immediate vicinity. You can choose to relax in the sun or seek the cool of the shade. You can also cool off in our natural pool, devoid of any chemicals.

The garden is a mixture of an orchard and a formal garden, which gradually merges into the natural habitat surrounding the stream. This stream eventually reaches the sea via Silves.

If you are in the right season then you can enjoy the ripe fruits such as oranges, mandarins, lemons, loquat or pomegranates.

There is also a vegetable garden where you can pick fresh veggies, the varieties and amounts depending on the season.

All organic!
