Silves

The nearest town is Silves, just 10 minutes by car, where you can explore the small streets, cafes and restaurants and enjoy local Portuguese specialities.

Silves was the capital of the Algarve during the occupation by the Moors (13th century) and is known for its rich history. This includes the castle and bridge over the Arade river which are remnants of that era. In early August every year Silves remembers its past by converting back to the the Middle Ages, to give you a real idea of what it used to be like.

You can also visit the local vegetable and fish market, filled with local produce and freshly caught fish.
